Hello again my dear reader,
Monday 11th of April 2011 marks the arrival of the first mega cruise-ship of the year in Bermuda. The ship is so large that it doesn’t fit in the harbour in Hamilton. So, it has to dock in Dockyard, at a specially built pier for ships that large.
When I found out that a ship this large was coming to Bermuda, I was excited. I really wanted to go and see it. So, we arranged to go after work with Jitka and combine the evening with dinner at the Frog & Onion at King’s Wharf, which is the place where the big boats dock. So, it’s a fairly long way from our place all the way to the end of the island but it’s a nice ride. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very warm yesterday evening so it wasn’t as nice a ride as it could have been. Having said that, we live here so we can come see the boat or Dockyard any time we want. I think that the 3,000 people on this boat may be a little more annoyed with the weather given that they were probably expecting to land in a tropical destination and enjoy the climate.
The boat is to leave today and it has been a better day for it. But, I have the feeling that there is simply too much risk in coming to Bermuda in April, the weather may not play along. We’re still seeing improvement all the time and short glimpses of what the summer may be like. But, we’re not there yet. Anyway, at least the food was nice at the Frog & Onion (named so after the French -frog- and Bermudian -onion- who started the place) and we got to see a new part of the island. I hope to return and check out more boats when the weather is better, I’m sure the place will be buzzing then.
